Himalayas in Sanskrit means "the abode of the snow". The Himalayan range is the youngest and highest mountain range in the world and stretches across Nepal, China, India, Bhutan, Pakistan and Afghanistan. This region accounts for about 64% of total land area. Prominent ranges in this region include the Mahabharat and Churia ranges. The southernmost region is the Terai. The low-land Terai occupies about 17% of the total land area of the country. These magnificent peaks and wonderful trekking trails attract hordes of trekkers and climbers from all over the globe to Nepal.
